Quick Guide: Breakfast Foods to Fuel Your Runner’s Appetite

Morning runner or night owl, it doesn’t matter. Breakfast is breakfast.  It pays to start the day on the right foot, eating a balanced and healthy meal.  You know it, but you might not believe it, but eating a good breakfast will fuel you throughout your day.

Breakfast Ideas for Runers

Personally, I love running in the morning. When everyone is asleep and I’m out logging miles: that’s what makes me feel really good about my running. But just because I run in the morning, doesn’t mean I like to eat before I run.  If you’re like me, I run best when I can run on an empty stomach. It takes me only 20-30 minutes from the time I wake up, to the time I’m out the door, so eating isn’t really an option for me even if I chose to eat.

Oatmeal

Why I like them: This is my staple breakfast choice during the week.  The oats are a great source of fiber and I pair it with seasonal fruits, peanut butter, and honey, with a dash of cinnamon or pumpkin spice.

Overnight Oats

Why I like them: Easy to make with lots of flavor combinations.  The oats are high in fiber and keep you feeling full for longer.

It’s not enough to just read about overnight oats, you really have to see it to imagine the different ingredients you can put in.

Oatmeal Energy Balls

Why I like them: Perfect on-the-go snack and provides a sufficient energy boost.  You can add different “toppings” to them as well.

Egg Muffin Cups

Why I like them:  I can make these in advance and they are packed with veggies.  I like mine with tomatoes, onion, spinach, and cheese.
