How I’m Training

The last two weeks of training have been great, despite the rain, snow, freezing temps, and sleet.  It’s been good to me, it really has.

Break down of my last two weeks…

2/23 through 3/1

A typical Sunday run got pushed to Monday, so Monday was a solid 9 miler at 7:14 pace around town after work.

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday were easy days.  With work being nutty and the bad weather, I get my easy “jog” days – 4, 4.5, and 4.5.

Wednesday was a planned off day.  I take one day off a week to recoup both mentally and physically.

Friday’s tempo was a great way to end the week.  We went 3 miles and averaged 5:42.  Happy with how it went and more happy with how I recovered after it.

Sunday’s long run I really geared up for. It’s my first time in double digits this year and I wanted it to go well.  It did.  I ran 11 miles in 1:16.50 for an average of 6:59.  The last three miles were 6:54, 6:34 and 6:38.

Mileage: 40 miles in 6 days.

Week of 3/2 through 3/8

Yoga practice!

Monday and Tuesday were easy days – 3.5 and 4 – as I geared up for my one workout this week.

Wednesday I did 3 x 1 mile at threshold and then 2 x 400 at my current 5k pace.  It went well despite the rain and I’m excited to see where my new fitness will take me.  Hopefully to fast times at my 5k and 10 miler in the next few months!

Thursday was my off day this week as we got nearly 6 inches of snow.

Friday and Saturday were easy, recovery runs – 4 and 6 miles.  Believe it or not, it was the first weekend of spring track.

Sunday’s run was tough, but I got 10 miles in for 35 for the week.

Mileage: 35 miles in 6 days; 75 miles in two weeks.

How was your week of training?  What positives can you take out of your training?
