go away injury bug

Let’s face it… All runners eventually get hurt.  The question is, why?  What are we doing that allows the injury bug to bite?

When you dig a bit deeper, there are a few key bits of information we need to look at.
1.  Are you doing something you don’t normally do?  Sleeping less, eating worse, more mileage?  All of the above?  That’s a certain recipe for disaster.
2.  Do you have any clue what you are doing?  Long runs on top of long runs? Interval workouts with a side of crazy?  That’ll do it.  Ease up there, mileage hog.  Find a plan that’s been used before, preferably by someone who knows what they are doing.

3. Are you refusing to acknowledge that pain? No one wants to take time off, but better nip it early.  I always say a day now is better than a week later.  There’s nothing wrong with backing off and saving it for another day.
So if you fall in to one of these three categories, just know that the injury bug is right around the corner – ready to bite when you let your guard down.  Take care of yourself, take control of what you can, and hope the running gods are looking down on you favorably.
If you have no idea how you got injured, maybe it’s time to hire a coach who can get you back on track.  Contact Marc.
