before you race again

Do this one thing.  Run.  Run the month before, the day before, the hour before.  Just run.  There’s no reason not to run.  You’ve signed up for a race, the least you can do is run.

I was driving to a race on Sunday and it was unseasonably cold – with 30 mph winds and temps in the 30s.  Certainly not a reason to be walking around in shorts.  But that’s all I saw.  Runners everywhere – and all of them shivering!  What the…

Hours before this 10k, and here are hundreds of smart people doing a very silly thing!

There’s no way a runner can race properly when they are shivering.  It’s just not possible.  So next time you decide to run a race, please, wear warm clothes.  Do a warm up in those warm clothes, even if it’s a 10 minute jog.  And then keep moving up until the gun goes off.  You want to be sweating before a race, not shivering.  That’s how you run a fast time.
