Philly Kind of Weekend


Last weekend Melissa rocked it in Philly at the Philadelphia Rock & Roll Half Marathon.  She’s in the thick of training for her marathon, but came down to the city to put together a great pre-marathon hard effort.


Our goal for the race was to run smart, practice nutrition & fueling for 26.2, and work on pacing efforts.  This was done to perfection as we both believe that she’s primed for a great Chicago Marathon in just a few weeks.

This is what she wrote in her dailymile post:

“I didn’t have any major time goals for this race – but my pacing strategy was to run by feel. 75% for the first four miles, 85% for the next seven, and to pick it up and run 95% for the last mile and a half. I covered my watch and felt great for most of the run. Water/gatorade stops absolutely slowed me down. Splits don’t reflect that I was running by feel (so thank goodness my watch was covered!) – and are eerily consistent, except for miles 11 and 12.All in all, it was a great day for a run and I’m starting to feel a little more confident for my marathon (in less than a month – eeeek!)Splits: 9:45, 9:42, 9:50, 9:47, 9:57, 9:49, 9:48, 9:35, 9:58, 9:45, 9:48, 10:19, 10:15, 9:19.”

Way to go Melissa!  Can’t wait to see how your last month of training gets your ready for Chicago!
