Overcoming Obstacles – the Pre-Race Injury Bug

You’ve put in the miles, stretched, done your core work, gone to yoga, and done most of what is necessary for your big race day.  And then out of no where, an injury pops up…

Get your running back on track

What do you do?!  Do you race?  Do you sit it out?  Or just tough it out and “get through” only to be more injured later?

Does it depend on the race or the time of year?  What about if you’ve put all your eggs in one basket – like a big marathon?

You’ve iced, stretched, rested…but it still lingers.

Then what?

Hopefully, you have a good support system and you’re able to visit a specialist as soon as it happens.  You’ll listen to your body and not push until it feels better, but will it be enough?  You’ll continue to ice and take appropriate medicines.  You’ll massage and poke and prod, but to no avail.

You make an informed decision based on your running history, the importance of the race and what your future plans looked like.  When you decide, stick with it knowing you’ve made the best choice for you.

And then you move on.  You move on because sometimes, there’s more to life than just running and that’s what you have to keep in mind.
